That day, Andrei hardly said a word.
He was only thirty-five.
His wife, Alina, was thirty-two.

For Andrei, the world had ended.
All the formalities passed as if in a dream.
The paperwork.
The farewell.

Organizing the ceremony.

He just stared at a single point, as if hoping to wake up one day and realize that all of this was a terrible mistake.
On the day of the cremation, the funeral hall was nearly full.
Alina’s parents sat in the front row.

Just as they began to slowly move the coffin toward the furnace, Andrei suddenly took a few quick steps forward.

A few minutes later, they managed to restart the heart.
Later, the doctors spent a long time analyzing what had happened.
According to them, the cause was an extremely rare situation related to the body’s severe condition following cardiac arrest. Medical literature describes rare cases of spontaneous restoration of cardiac activity after resuscitation has been discontinued, known as the Lazarus phenomenon, although such situations are exceptionally rare and require confirmation by medical equipment.
For a long time, Andrei couldn’t understand why it was specifically her finger that made him stop the ceremony.
Later, one of the doctors explained that as her muscles relaxed, the position of her hand might have changed, and it was precisely this small detail that caught the attention of the man who knew Alina better than anyone else.
After several weeks in the ICU, the woman regained consciousness.
Her recovery turned out to be a long one.
But one day she was able to smile at her husband.
“You were being stubborn again, weren’t you?” she asked quietly.
Andrei laughed through his tears.
“For the first time in my life, I’m glad I didn’t listen to anyone.”
